Q: Why do you not accept HMO insurance plans?
A: HMO insurance's selling point is the hope that those on the plan do not seek dental work unless its an emergency. HMO works on a capitation plan which means that they pay the dentist roughly one to two dollars a month for each person that signs up to go their office. Once signed up, the dentist offers a very discounted rate, which then forces the office to double and sometimes triple book appointments just to make ends meet. Also, once you sign up for an office, you are not allowed to change that office till the next sign up period. What if you do not like your dentist or their staff? Unfortunately you are stuck with them till you can change. We believe that no patient should feel "forced" to go anywhere they do not want to go.
Q: Should I get a root canal or an implant?
A: Root canals are still the treatment of choice IF the tooth is not decayed to the point where the restoration of the tooth is questionable. Too many times, you run into dentists that do not have enough knowledge on implants and will perform a Root Canal on a tooth that will end up fracturing in 6 months to a year. When a tooth is too far destroyed, it is more beneficial and cost effective to remove the tooth and place an implant. Each case is specific to the tooth in question. It is always best to go to a dentist that knows the pros and cons of both treatments to get the best answer.
Q: Why does the price of crowns or veneers vary from one office to another?
A: The reason for this is because it depends on the material used to make the crown or veneer. There are labs that use cheaper material and thus the quality is not as good as other labs that use the highest standard materials. This is the difference of having a crown look thicker or have a "black" line along the gum line verses a crown that looks natural.
